Tungsten Carbide Burrs

What You Need to Know

When it comes to metal fabrication, you’ll find a confusingly extensive variety of rotary burrs and there’s a lot to account for when choosing a suitable burr bit for the job at hand. So, we’ve put this guide together so you’re able to distinguish the differences between the types and select the perfect rotary burr.

First Thing’s First

Before we get into any of the details, you might be wondering what are rotary burrs used for?

Put simply, a burr is a rotating tool or bit which is recommended for use with high-speed die grinders or straight grinders to remove material, usually metal. They are designed for high-speed rotation which allows the burr to manipulate the material at hand. When it comes to metal, burrs are ideal for deburring, enlarging holes, sculpting, welding, shaping and the list goes on.

Tungsten Carbide Burrs?

Burrs are usually made from Tungsten Carbide or High Strength Steel (HSS). But, we’re here to talk about tungsten carbide burrs – the preferred choice when working with metal.

Due to the extreme hardness of tungsten carbide, greater tolerance of heat, the performance at high temperatures and a longer life, carbide burrs are undoubtedly superior to HSS burrs. Not to mention that carbide burrs can be also used on all metals – including aluminium, steel and stainless steel.

Here at HMT, we have designed our tungsten carbide burrs to the highest specifications to ensure metalworkers high control, a precision cut, long life and smooth operation.

Our GoldMax™ TCT Burrs also feature a titanium coating for cooler cutting and additional life. And to put your mind at ease, all our carbide burrs are 100% braze tested for strength and safety!

What Shape Do I Go For?

The shape you choose is all dependant on what you’re trying to achieve and the contact surface. And if you have several different surfaces to work with, then it might be worth considering a set, such as our 4-piece burr set listed below.

  1. HMT Cylinder GoldMax™ TCT Burr
  2. HMT Ball Nose Cylinder GoldMax™ TCT Burr
  3. HMT Tree GoldMax™ TCT Burr
